The Derby Ram Trail Lives on in New Realities with our Legacy App

Donating our creative, web & app development and AR skills to the Derby Ram Trail from its beginning in 2019, we are proud to wrap up the epic local cultural project with an Augmented Reality (AR) legacy app – bringing a permanent piece of the event to our city.

Building on the success of the 12-week event, the new app will see the rams return to Derby’s streets in colourful AR form and create an ongoing experience for the city to enjoy.

This immersive solution follows on from the first stage of our Ram Trail app, which unlocked a sense of adventure by encouraging users to find and collect the 30 colourful ram sculptures as they navigated the city. Now, almost two months after the rams departed from their original locations in Derby, the 30 sculptures are once again available to explore via our free to download mobile solution.

Co-Founder and Director, Keith Cox said: “As Headline Digital Partners we’re delighted to be keeping the creativity and community spirit of the Derby Ram Trail alive by harnessing digital and immersive technology to design, develop and produce this legacy app.

Visitors can continue to experience that sense of quest as they explore the city and interact with virtual rams along the way. The app also brings the trail close to home – as once the AR rams have been unlocked at their original positions on the trail, visitors can explore these AR sculptures at home by placing them in their own spaces and gardens.”

Tony Butler, Executive Director at Derby Museums added: “We are delighted to have collaborated with Bloc Digital on an updated version of the Ram Trail app which will allow visitors to Derby to continue to find the rams. Bloc Digital’s support in developing the app means visitors can enjoy a virtual version of the trail far into the future.”

As well as being able to access the virtual rams, 15 of the decorated ram sculptures will remain on public display across the UK including one of our sponsored rams, Ramdom Access Memory (R.A.M.). R.A.M. will reside alongside Secret RAM at Tioga Limited on Mansfield Road in Derby. Rameses, our second sponsored ram, was snapped up by a private buyer at the Derby Ram Trail auction. But no matter where the sculptures have ended up, the legacy app will enable the works of art to remain digitally open to explore.

We are looking forward to seeing visitors immersive themselves in the art and appreciate the contributions of the organisations involved for years to come.
